Remember the time when the entire family, after dinner, was sitting in the living room watching T.V, when suddenly your cheek began to itch. In no time the sensation spread to the entire body. We all have, sometime or the other in our lives, encountered hives. Either we ourselves suffered from it or have seen our near and dear ones experience a breakout.  Most of us have had the good fortune of dealing with it only on an isolated occasion, while some unfortunately had to suffer from the condition for a long period. The toughest part or rather the most frustrating part of getting hives is that maximum number of times its causes may not even be identified.

Hives or welts, also known in the medical community by the term, urticaria, is a common skin condition where rashes, due to an allergic reaction, appear on the skin in the form of flat bumps or blotches. Slightly raised from the rest of the area, these are reddish in color, mostly circular and often grouped. Varying in size and coverage, these are accompanied with intense pain, swelling and severe itching.

As my own hives gotten worse as the years went on, I had decided that it was time to figure out what causes hives. I had surgery done on it but then it didn’t go away until I went to see a chinese herbal doctor and we successfully treated it completely with no chemicals or drugs. I thought I was in the clear and then a year later I had a pneumothorax, a condition where air is trapped between your chest cavity and your lungs, which means every time I breathed, the trapped air would crush the hell out of my lungs and heart, making it lethal to breath often. I had to get my left side chest sliced open so the doctors could put in a chest tube in me to suck the trapped air out. The surgery wound up being done when the anesthesia wore off.
